Customer Reviews
I've been playing with this Archos 7c for about a week now and I must say that I'm impressed with the upgraded screen. This 7c comes equipped with capacitive screen rather than the outdated resistive screen found in cheaper tablets all over ebay.
I've immediately updated the ROM to the stocked 1.0.3 that is available on Archos website. Not very happy with the performance at all - screen is not responsive and there are lots of lagging going on when swiping between screens. I then updated to the CFW ( can be found on ArcTablet by searching "Archos 7c Custom firmware) 2.1 Root market (Created by Birdiebnl - Version 21.04 custom rom)
Now it runs much smoother than the stocked firmware. Still not powerful enough to fully enjoy video gaming but I bought this for watching movie and read books on BART and in bed so it works perfectly fine for me.
Also, if anyone is looking for a case, I found out that only 2 cases on Amazon fit this system really well. One being the sleeve style made by Archos themselves Archos Protective Case for Archos 7 Home Tablet (Black) Another one is this one Black Leather Case for Archos 7 Home Tablet 4GB-8GB
I'd say if you have the 7HT V2, you probably fine keeping your current systems as this 7c only comes with capasitive screen while the rest of the spec remains the same.
All in all, I like it enough to give it 4 stars. Minus one because Archos still hasn't release official Android 2.2, 2.3 or the 3. Honeycomb to be used with this Archos 7c.
UPDATE 9/5/11
There is a newer Custom firmware out though. It's Froyo 2.2 and works fine with some screen lag. here is the link: [...]
Remember to turn off animation, reduce desktop scrolling speed and desktop overshoot to 0 in ADW settings. Also, in Spare Parts, set animation to Fast. Doing these things helped a bunch with 7c running this 2.2 Froyo firmware.
Archos confuses the heck out of buyers with about 5 iterations of the 7 series home tablets (not counting internet media tablets which don't run Android OS). This is the 3rd upgrade to their 7 Home Tablets (I don't count Arnova ones as upgrades - they're just cheaper versions). 7 first gen was slow, slow, slow with very unresponsive resistive touch screen - don't even think about buying these anymore. Version 2 upgraded the software to Android 2.1 (you can root it to 2.3 now) and the processor to 800 Mhz from 600. Good improvement in useability, still resistive screen with slow response. Still the processor is too slow to play any games decently - Angry Bird will play but very slow. The 7C adds capacitive screen with pinch zoom functionality but otherwise same hardware as version 2. Quite uesable for everyday tasks, playing video and web surfing. So why am I NOT recommending it? The thing is, Archos has a 70 which has a faster 1 Ghz processor which you can now buy at about the same price (or even cheaper for used). The 70 is SIGNIFICANTLY better than 7c in all respects so why would you pay about the same for a less robust unit?
